Halyard Homes
Halyard Homes is a division of Lee S. Halyard & Associates. Halyard is my maiden name, the name I grew up with and suffice it to say that identifying as a Halyard is something I am very proud of.
So what is a Halyard you ask? It’s really not a very common last name, in fact I have personally never met anyone with my same last name. I know there are many last names that are easy to mispronounce and growing up it drove me crazy…
Hay-yard ... Hay-lard ... Haly-yard ... Hayle - Yard
I have heard them all….
So first thing’s first it’s Halyard (click for proper prounciation)
Halyard: noun - a rope used for raising and lowering a sail, spar, flag or yard on a sailing ship.
If like me, you have little to no experience with sailing you may not be familiar with this term.
However, perhaps also like me, you have heard Moana play in the background of your home no less than 2,341 times and caught the line where Maui tells Moana “Tighten the Halyard!”
Or maybe you have grabbed a mask from a medical supply box labeled HALYARD.
I am a third-generation entrepreneur. My grandfather, Paul Halyard is a mechanical engineer with awards and accolades a mile long. He is also a real estate investor and someone I still look to for wisdom and guidance in my professional endeavors. He instilled the pride of the Halyard name in me, by the example he set for the generations to follow him.
Although my dad did not have a son, and thus the Halyard name stops at my generation in our family lineage, I am excited for the opportunity to still carry on the legacy of being a Halyard in this way. I thoughtfully chose this name and branding with the intention and goal that when you think of Halyard, you think of me, and our company as your trusted real estate professionals in the Hampton Roads area. We have a reputation for working tirelessly for our clients, keeping their best interests is our top priority.
When I think about the meaning of Halyard, and what it is used for on a ship (raising and lowering the sail) and how that changes depending on the winds and current. The name for our company could not be more fitting: with over 25 years of experience in this local market, we are resilient and committed to staying up to date with market trends and adapting when necessary - especially in unprecedented times (ie: the current pandemic!)
